Course Description

For the week-long format, Gaming Ideology: Sociological Game-Design for Social Change, will create the context to explore the connections between game-mechanics (rules of action), visual rhetoric (persuasive imagery) and effective storytelling practices to challenge troubling social norms. Students will leave the creative workshop having pitched a sociological game idea based on a series of mini-lectures, guided creative exercises, group discussions and in-class work sessions. The students will be required to choose a social issue to address through their game but will be asked to preface any sensitive material with appropriate content warnings.
