Fact or fake news: Exploring credible knowledge using research

Course Description

The mini-course provides students with a foundational understanding of research methodology using relatable contemporary issues around fake news. The mini-course will support students in identifying the difference between fact, misinformation and disinformation using critical thinking and credible research. During the mini-course, students will participate in class exercises focused on: (i) exploring various perspectives of a social/health issue, (ii) reading peer-reviewed and lucid research articles, (iii) critically appraising a research article, (iv) knowledge translation and identifying biases. This mini-course will act as a primer for high school students to appraise research articles and develop assignments at the undergraduate (university) level.
