Course Description

Background: Environmental health issues such as unsafe water, poor sanitation, and pollution often remain underreported in communities. Traditional communication channels may overlook local voices. Objective: To use cellphilming, a short, participatory films created with mobile phones—as a tool for reporting environmental health concerns and improving health communication. Methods: Students will be trained to document lived experiences and local hazards through cellphilms. These films are shared with short health information in forums and digital platforms to stimulate dialogue. Expected Outcomes: Provide factual information, enhanced awareness, culturally resonant messaging, and stronger engagement between residents, policymakers, and health professionals for inclusive, sustainable interventions.

Biography

i am in my final year of my PhD program in Population Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences. I was the lead facilitator for the Fact or fake news: exploring credible knowledge using research in 2023. i have the experience facilitating the mini course. i would like to add it gave me a new outlook to working with teenagers on issues of health and research.
