Course Description
This minicourse is where science meets creativity and self-expression. We will go beyond numbers and graphs to learn how public health researchers translate deep, personal and complex experiences—like the voices of those experiencing violence, stigma or lack of access—into powerful, measurable information. Teaching students how to turn personal stories into powerful calls to action. Students will learn how to use arts (visual arts, storytelling, drama and music) not just to display data, but to analyze it, revealing hidden patterns and compelling policymakers (like a school board or a government official) to take action.
Biography
My name is Rose Mary Tazinya, I am a PhD student in Population Health at the University of Ottawa. I have a background in medicine and obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Buea, Cameroon, as well as a master’s degree in public health from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium. I have extensive experience in qualitative research, particularly incorporating arts-based methods. I like working with young people, and I would be delighted to share experiences with you.
