Course Description
Ever wonder what’s really going on inside your head? In Inside the Mind: The Neuroscience of Mental Health, you’ll spend a week exploring the fascinating world of the human brain by discovering how it works and how changes in brain function can influence mental health and behaviour. In this interactive mini-course, you’ll learn how billions of neurons communicate to shape your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Through group activities, engaging discussions, and short lectures, you’ll uncover how the brain connects to behaviours, mood, and movement. You’ll explore some of today’s most pressing topics in neuroscience and discover what scientists are learning about the causes and treatments for various mental health disorders.
Each day will focus on a different area of mental health: from how the brain’s reward system influences substance use disorders, to how chemical and hormonal imbalances can lead to mood disorders like depression and anxiety, to how diseases like Parkinson’s change the way people move and think. Along the way, you’ll meet real neuroscientists and graduate students who study these topics in the lab. They’ll share their journeys, current research, and how discoveries in neuroscience are improving mental health care around the world!
If you’ve ever wondered what’s going on “inside the mind”, this is your chance to find out! Join us for a week of discovery, discussions, and exploration into the neuroscience of mental health and see just how much your brain can blow your mind!
