Course Description
Australia recently banned social media for teens under 16—should Canada follow? In this interactive course, you’ll explore one of today’s most controversial questions: how far should governments go to regulate social media? You’ll learn how laws are made, what tools governments use to enforce rules, and how Canada’s Constitution divides power between provinces and the federal government. Through polls, group activities, and lively discussion, you’ll debate whether a ban could work here and what it would take to make it happen. Get ready to think like a policymaker and tackle a real-world challenge! This course is based on a course I teach called CML4104 Law and Regulation at the Faculty of Law and School of Political Studies.
Biography
Hi, I’m Andrés Drew! I’m a bilingual lawyer who’s spent over 15 years working on big questions about law, policy, and how rules shape our world. I teach at the University of Ottawa, where I help students explore topics like social media regulation, negotiation, and stress management. My superpower? Making complicated ideas simple and fun. I love creating interactive sessions where you can debate, problem-solve, and learn skills you’ll actually use—whether it’s handling conflict, managing time, or understanding how laws are made. If you’re curious and ready to think big, you’re in the right place!
