Course Description
You can get your driver's license when you're 16 and your first (legal!) beer when you're 19. That's great, but did you know that you can be convicted of a crime as early as grade 8? If you're curious about criminal justice or looking for ways to stay out of trouble, this course is for you. This course begins with an introduction to criminal law, and then explores topics such as arrest, search and seizure, and trial. You will learn how to navigate encounters with the criminal justice system and understand your rights discussions with real criminal law lawyers.
Biography
My name is Yuma Wu, and I am a second year PhD student at the Faculty of Law. I am currently a teaching assistant at the law school, and I have extensive informal experience in my undergraduate degree in tutoring and assisting my classmates in tackling difficult and abstract problems in computer science. As an experienced tabletop game organizer with over a decade of experience, I am organized and skilled in moderating group discussions. I am also connected to various local criminal law lawyers and practitioners, and I aim to bring these professionals into the classroom so students can gain an intimate and practical understanding of the subject.
