Description du cours
Mission statement: This course will facilitate analysis among students of the relationship between religion and culture in the context of living in a multicultural society. Students will learn about and research the influence of a particular world religion on certain cultures (e.g. through music, theatre, cuisine, and philosophy). Famous stories students may not immediately associate with religion (such as from Greek mythology) will be included alongside contemporary religions to provide a further connection between the ancient and modern world.
Biographie
I am a second-year teacher-candidate at uOttawa. I was an emergency occasional-teacher with the OCDSB from May 2023 to June 2024. Before that, I was a student-teacher at an elementary school as part of my high school coop program. One of my biggest interests is the intersection of world religion and culture. I have read translations of the entire Bible three times (NRSV twice; KJV once); the Qur'an three times (M.A.S. Abdel Haleem's translation twice, Mustafa Khattab's translation once); Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and parts of the Bhagavata Purana; Buddhist texts such as the Lotus Sutra; and have been exposed to stories from Indigenous religious traditions (especially Algonquin Anishinaabe traditions) through several courses at Carleton and uOttawa.
