Course Description
Korean culture—from its captivating dramas and music to its delicious cuisine—has truly taken the world by storm. The term "Hallyu," or the "Korean Wave," was coined specifically to describe this global phenomenon. Are you hooked on K-dramas? Do you stream the latest K-pop comebacks, or maybe you just can't get enough Korean food? Then, what better way to fully immerse yourself in Korean culture than by learning the language?
In this course, you'll take your first step into the world of Korean by learning Hangeul, the Korean alphabet. Hangeul is renowned for its elegant simplicity and can be effectively mastered in just five days. By the end of this program, you won't just be able to recognize symbols—you’ll be able to confidently read and write any Korean text, from your favorite K-pop star’s name to song lyrics and beyond.
To enhance your learning experience, we've included several exciting, hands-on activities:
• A field trip to the MacOdrum Library Book Arts Lab at Carleton, where you can print your name in Hangeul.
• An in-class calligraphy session to practice the artistry of the script.
• The chance to try on a traditional Korean clothing, Hanbok, for a memorable cultural experience.
