Cardiovascular diseases represent a major health problem around the world involving heart, brain, peripheral circulation, and lifestyle factors. It is a complex genetic trait influenced both by genetic and environmental factors with an estimated average range of 30-60% of heritability. Numerous Linkage and genome-wide linkage analysis links genetics and lifestyle habits responsible for predisposition to cardiovascular diseases and use high throughput technologies to study the biological underpinnings of cardiovascular diseases. The course focuses on the genetics of cardiovascular diseases , introductory biostatistics, and recent technologies and techniques used, including using Pubmed central, gene search, short presentations, group discussions, and hands-on-exercises.
